How to Make Paper Guns
From LoveToKnow Origami
Whether for play or just because they look great, you can learn how to make paper guns using origami. Beginners will find this to be one project they can do, too. All you need are two pieces of paper to get started.
How to Make Paper Guns with Origami
To make a paper gun, you will first need to obtain two pieces of origami paper use a piece of printer paper that has been cut into a perfect square. To do this using standard paper, simply fold one corner of the paper to the opposite edge. Align the edges of the paper evenly and crease the folded edge. This should create a triangular shape on the bottom with an extra rectangle at the top. Cut off the extra rectangle. Repeat with the second piece of paper. They do need to be the same size.
Follow these steps to create a paper gun using square origami papers:
- Using just one piece of paper, fold up the bottom edge to the top edge, aligning the sides well. Crease this fold.
- Fold the paper in half again, folding the bottom edge up to match the top edge. Repeat this a third time as well. Crease the edges with each fold.
- Fold the paper in half in the opposite direction, from side to side. Crease and then unfold.
- Take the left side of the paper and fold down, so that it forms a 90-degree angle to the right side. This creates a side-ways "L" shape, with the "handle" of the gun below the other portion.
- This step is a bit more tricky. The goal is to create another 90-degree angle on the opposite side of the paper. To do this, you first need to crease the paper properly. Lay the "L" shape on a flat surface. Fold over the handle part about an inch past the triangular top and crease the edge formed. Then, take the remaining right side of the paper and crease along the diagonal edge of the handle. Crease.
- Unfold this, leaving the handle portion still creased at 90 degrees. Take the right side of the paper and fold at a 90-degree angle pointing down. Crease well.
- Fold the right side of the handle over, on top of the left. Crease well. This entire piece of paper has now created the handle of the gun.
- Repeat the first three steps again, using the second piece of paper. This will form the barrel of the gun after a few more steps. It should look like a rectangle.
- Insert the barrel of the gun into the handle of the gun. To do this, slide the second piece of folded paper into between the other pieces, right along the diagonal edge. Allow the creased edge of the second piece of paper to rest against the handle of the gun, to hold it in place.
The steps above will create a basic gun. It is about the right size for an adult. Use colored paper for variations in style and design. Since young children often like to play with guns, this is a very cost effective and relatively safe option. They can even paint or color it to give it some personal touches after they have learned how to create the gun.
